1. Number of Fellows
・1–2 fellows
2. Eligibility
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
・Must be a member of the Japanese Society of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (JSOA)
・be committed to contributing to the development of the Society.
・be under 45 years old at the time of application
・speak English fluently
・be currently studying or planning to study abroad at an institution affiliated with an AOSSM member, under one of the following conditions:
- If currently abroad: the study period must continue until at least 2026.
- If planning to study abroad: the program must begin by May 2026.
・be available for the entire duration of the fellowship program.
・have experience as a first author or co-author in presentations at annual meetings of JSOA, JOSSM, or JOSKAS and in publications in the respective journals.
・have at least one English-language paper published in the field of sports orthopaedics as first author.
3. Program overview
The selected fellows will participate in the following program:
・Period
May 2026 – August 2027
・Schedule
July 2026: Attend AOSSM Annual Meeting in Seattle, WA for award recognition.
December 2026: Visit Arthrex Headquarters in Naples, FL for one week to:
- Observe the research program
- Meet the research team
- Present research activities from the year
July -August 2027: Conclusion of program with fellow presenting research results at AOSSM annual meeting in Boston, MA (July 2027) and at the JSOA Annual Meeting in Sapporo (2027).
4. Expenses
・Total: USD 75,000
Note: If two fellows are selected, the amount will be divided equally.
・Airfare is to be borne by the fellow
5. Host Institutions
・Institutions affiliated with AOSSM members.
・Arthrex Headquarters (Naples, FL).
6. Application Documents
Applicants must submit the following documents:
・Curriculum Vitae (with passport-size photo 3.5×4.5 cm)
・Research achievements (original papers, presentations, books, lectures, etc.)
・Study Abroad Confirmation Letter (including applicant’s name, institution, and study period)
・Letters of Recommendation
- One from the professor of the applicant’s department
- One from a JSOA delegate
All documents must be prepared in English and compiled into one PDF file.
7. Submission
・Submit all application documents as a single PDF file.
・Applications must be sent by email to the JSOA Administrative Office (info@jsoa.or.jp).
・If the file size is large, a file transfer service may be used.
8. Application Deadline
・15 October 2025
9. Selection Schedule
・November 2025: First screening (by JSOA).
・Note: Up to four candidates will be selected at this stage.
・December 2025: Final selection (by JSOA and AOSSM).
10. Obligations
Selected fellows are required to:
・Present their research results at the 2027 JSOA Annual Meeting
・Present at the 2027 AOSSM Annual Meeting
・Submit a paper to the Journal of Japanese Society of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine
・Contribute an article to the JSOA Newsletter
